WHO ARE WE?
But it is June 9, 2014 that marks a special date for padel in the UAE.It was on this day that Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development issued a decree officially recognising padel as a sport with full government support. As per the decree, Sheikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum was entrusted with the reins of being the first President of UAE Padel Association with assistance of six members constitute the Board of Directors.
The first meeting of the new Board of Directors of the UAE Padel Association was held on July 11, 2014 and it was during this meeting that roles were assigned and allocated among the members. Khalifa Yousuf Al Khoory became the first Vice President, Mohammed Mubarak Al Mutaiwe’e was chosen as the second Vice President and Saeed Al Marri as the Secretary General.
Jamal Bushagar was appointed Head of Competitions and National Teams, while Ali Al Marzooqi took over as Finance Manager and Shamma Al Amiri was took control as Head of Marketing.
Since its inception the UAE Padel Association has been carrying out the vision of Sheikh Hamdan by cultivating the development of Padel in the UAE.
What started off with that initiative from Sheikh Hamdan has today turned out into a huge achievement for Padel in the UAE as the sport has made huge progress with the opening of clubs and facilities in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
After the establishment of the state-of-the-art facilities at Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex, the Real Racquet Academy (RRA) opened its doors with three courts at the Emirates Golf Club as well as a court along the scenic area in Umm Suqueim along the Jumeirah Beach.
The Zayed Sports City was next, and since then, padel has been building up its reputation as one of the fast-growing sports in the UAE.
One of the foremost injections leading to the growing popularity of the sport has been the organisation of the annual Nad Al Sheba (NAS) Ramadan Sports Tournament. While the clubs have been contributing to the progress with organisation of tournaments and age-group competitions in Padel, the UAE Padel Association has been setting up a framework to have a proper rankings system for the players in keeping with the lofty directives laid down by its prime patron Sheikh Hamdan.
