Sheikh Saeed Bin Juma Al Maktoum, president, UAEPA has brought new faces into the governing body to ensure the sport rides on its growing popularity among Emirates and residents of the UAE.
“The recent participation of players from various nationalities gave us an indication that we need to do something more to make Padel tennis even more popular among the UAE population,” Sheikh Saeed stated after meeting with the new board of directors at the NAS Sports Complex on Sunday.
Yousuf Al Khoury and Mohammed Al Mutaiwei have been retained as the First and Second Vice-Presidents respectively, while Saeed Mohammed Al Marri will continue being the Secretary-General of the governing body in the UAE.
Jamal Al Hossani, Mohammed Al Mulla and Ibrahim Al Fardan are the three new faces drafted into the body. Jamal Al Hossani will be the new Head of Competitions Committee, while Mohammed Al Mulla will be the Head of Marketing Committee and Ibrahim Al Fardan will be the new Financial Manager.
As part of its strategic planning for the future, Sheikh Saeed stated that the UAE PA will start bidding to organize minor tournaments on the international circuit. “The thinking at the moment is to give existing Padel tennis players the opportunity to compete at a reasonable level and raise their standard as players. Perhaps we will have at least four 100-points tournaments to start with, and then we will try and organize a higher level tournament,” Sheikh Saeed said.
“Over a period of time, we have seen many international level Padel tennis players coming in to the UAE. Besides these we have coaches who run academies.”
